In Rourkela’s Sector 3 area, a 14-year-old girl with partial neurodevelopmental disorders was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three individuals. The incident occurred on July 4, and the case came to light after her parents filed a complaint with Sector 3 police on Wednesday evening.
According to the complaint, the girl was taken to Deogarh district, where she was sexually assaulted by three people, one of whom was known to her. The other two assailants have not yet been identified.
Preliminary inquiries showed that the minor went missing on July 4. She was rescued the following day (July 5) by a PCR vehicle while wandering in Deogarh. Police placed her in the local Sakhi One-Stop Centre and contacted her parents, who brought her back to Rourkela on July 6.
The girl initially told authorities she had gone to Deogarh to attend a marriage function and that her brother had dropped her there. She did not mention the assault during counselling at the centre. However, after returning home, she gathered the courage to disclose the full ordeal to her parents.
Based on the parents’ complaint naming one known accused, police registered a case and detained that individual for questioning. The girl also underwent a medical examination. As of now, the detained person has not confessed to the crime.
Police are actively investigating to verify the statements of the survivor and the detainee, reconstruct the sequence of events, and identify the remaining accused. Rourkela Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwani stated that a thorough probe is underway to ensure justice for the survivor.
